University of Hawaii Geriatric Medicine Fellowship Program

GERI 541: Geriatric and Palliative Medicine
This four-week rotation provides fourth-year medical students with a balanced overview of Geriatric and Palliative Medicine in the outpatient, inpatient, home care, and nursing home settings. A variety of instructional methods will be utilized, including clinical experiences, workshops and seminar sessions.

GERI 542: Research in Geriatrics 
The educational objectives of this course are to develop and complete a research project in the field of epidemiology of aging and to learn basic principles of epidemiology and statistics.

GERI 545: Visiting Elective Geriatric and Palliative Medicine
This four-week rotation provides visiting fourth-year medical students with a balanced overview of Geriatric and Palliative Medicine in the outpatient, inpatient, home care, and nursing home settings. A variety of instructional methods will be utilized, including clinical experiences, workshops and seminar sessions.


Wellness Initiative for Seniors in Hawaii (W.I.S.H): The mission of W.I.S.H. is to promote wellness among seniors by enhancing their quality of life through companionship, compassion, and support.  W.I.S.H. strives to expose students to the unique health and wellness needs of Hawaii's elderly population through direct interactions with the residents at Kuakini Home or other elderly residential communities.  Students will learn firsthand the various aspects of geriatric medicine including in-patient hospital care, community healthcare, palliative care, and long-term residential care by engaging in one-on-one shadowing experiences with physicians.
