E-Mails sent to 17th World Congress Mailing List Registrants
February 2003 Abstract Deadline Approaching, Social Actvities
With less than six weeks to go before the abstract submission deadline of March 15, abstracts are being received in steadily increasing numbers. We anticipate that the quality of scientific presentations will be superb.
Each morning will begin with plenary presentations. Each plenary Speaker is noteworthy not only for prominence scientifically, but also for being an outstanding Speaker. The symposia should be outstanding. Many of them are combining participants from several countries in different parts of the world. This will provide a perspective rarely seen in local or national conferences.

The poster sessions in the late afternoon will provide an opportunity to talk directly with researchers working in areas that you may be particularly interested in. The posters will be displayed in a beautiful setting, with ocean views, and refreshments available. These sessions will also provide opportunities to compare experiences with participants from other countries.

Reservations at the primary Congress hotel, the Hilton Waikoloa Village, are coming in at a rapid rate. We strongly recommend early reservations to make sure rooms are still available. Remember, registrants received a free luau banquet ticket with a minimum four night stay at the Hilton.

In the last mailing, we informed you of the special opportunity to hike to the nearby petroglyphs (lava rock carvings). Here are a couple more special activities that are available and that many people may not know about.

An activity which takes half a day is called "Fluming the Ditch" this has been rated one of the most outstanding and least known travel opportunities in the world. Reminiscent of white water rafting, it involves kayaking down a mountain. The cost is $90 per adult and $69 per child.

Another highly recommended excursion is Waipio Valley. You may tour this valley in a horse drawn wagon. This incredibly lush valley is filled with vegetation like you have never seen, ending at an amazing black sand beach. The cost is $43 per adult and $22 per child. These activities and many more can easily be arranged through the American Express activities desk, either in advance , or on site at the Hilton.

In addition, the hotel itself has so many activities that no matter how long you stay, you are sure to leave wishing you had more time.

See you there!
Aloha!
