How Often Are Residents On Call?
During inpatient ward months at Kuakini Medical Center and Saint Francis Medical Center, residents are on overnight call every fourth night. During inpatient ward months at Queens Medical Center, residents are on overnight call every fifth night. Interns may be assigned to “night float” while on a ward service, during which they are on duty from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, generally for two weeks at a time.

During Critical Care rotations, overnight call is every fourth night (for Categorical Residents, this comprises two months of the Level Two year and half a month of the Level Three year).

In general, there is no overnight call on elective rotations. Residents take call about once a week from home during the ambulatory care months.
