Our Curriculum is based on the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) General Competencies effective July 1, 2007. We expect residents completing a Categorical residency with us to achieve certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Graduates of the University of Hawaii Internal Medicine Residency Program apply current medical knowledge in the biomedical, clinical, and behavioral sciences, interpersonal communication skills and professionalism to the provision of outstanding, compassionate patient care that encompasses both the treatment of illness and the promotion of health. In providing this care, our graduates engage in practice-based learning and improvement by assimilating new scientific evidence and developing an awareness of system-based practice, responding to the larger context of public health and our evolving healthcare system.
