As a cultural hub of diversity and a melting pot of people and cultures, Hawaiʻi offers a unique learning ground for medical professionals. HRP fosters relationships with healthcare partners throughout the island of Oʻahu, employing more than 220 trainees in 17 ACGME-accredited residency and fellowship programs, some offering clinical rotation experiences on neighboring islands. Most recently, 42% of residency graduates and 38% of fellowship graduates remained in Hawaiʻi to practice medicine.

The board pass rate is nearly 100% for all programs.

I loved my pediatrics training at Kapiolani! The residents were my ‘ohana and Hawaii became my home. We had a great and unique variety of patients all in a beautiful location otherwise unmatched by any mainland program.

Hawai’i is the best place to train for Psychiatry because of the unique patient diversity and cultural openness and awareness. I have no regrets about selecting Hawai’i as my choice for residency and fellowship training and would do it all over again if I had the chance.

Many people fear going through training, only to feel inadequately prepared for the next phase of their careers. Graduating from the UHIMRP and going on to a premiere medical system that showed data indicating that they took care of the sickest patients in the country, and then finding that the clinical scenarios weren’t terribly different from what I often encountered as a resident, made me realize just how strong the clinical training was. Given this experience, I believe that if you train under the UHIMRP, you can be successful anywhere.
